Cheesy Stuffed Mozzarella Onion Rings are crispy, golden onion rings filled with stretchy mozzarella cheese, making a gooey and irresistible appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
- 2 large white onions
- 8 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs (panko preferred)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Optional: marinara or ranch dressing for dipping
Instructions
- Slice onions into thick rings and separate them into pairs of similar sizes.
- Place a mozzarella stick between a larger ring and a smaller ring to create a stuffed onion ring.
- Freeze the stuffed onion rings for 30 minutes to help them hold together.
- Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with eggs and milk whisked together, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Dredge each onion ring in flour, dip into egg mixture, then coat with breadcrumbs.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry onion rings in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with dipping sauce.

- Freezing is essential to prevent cheese from leaking while frying.
- You can air-fry or bake for a lighter version.
