Description

Cheesy Stuffed Mozzarella Onion Rings are crispy, golden onion rings filled with stretchy mozzarella cheese, making a gooey and irresistible appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 large white onions
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs (panko preferred)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional: marinara or ranch dressing for dipping

Instructions

  1. Slice onions into thick rings and separate them into pairs of similar sizes.
  2. Place a mozzarella stick between a larger ring and a smaller ring to create a stuffed onion ring.
  3. Freeze the stuffed onion rings for 30 minutes to help them hold together.
  4. Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with eggs and milk whisked together, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  5. Dredge each onion ring in flour, dip into egg mixture, then coat with breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry onion rings in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  8. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  9. Serve hot with dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Freezing is essential to prevent cheese from leaking while frying.
  • You can air-fry or bake for a lighter version.
  • Serve immediately for best cheese pull.
