Description
A soft, moist, and tender chocolate cake made with cake flour for a lighter crumb and rich chocolate flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups cake flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup hot water or hot coffee
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the cake flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Slowly add the hot water or coffee, mixing until fully incorporated. The batter will be thin.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 28–32 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Hot coffee enhances the chocolate flavor but hot water works as well.
- Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for best texture.
- The cake pairs well with chocolate buttercream or cream cheese frosting.
