Description

A soft, moist, and tender chocolate cake made with cake flour for a lighter crumb and rich chocolate flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup hot water or hot coffee

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the cake flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  5. Slowly add the hot water or coffee, mixing until fully incorporated. The batter will be thin.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 28–32 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Hot coffee enhances the chocolate flavor but hot water works as well.
  • Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for best texture.
  • The cake pairs well with chocolate buttercream or cream cheese frosting.
