Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Red and green sanding sugar or sprinkles for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream together the butter, cream cheese, and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract; mix until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Shape dough into 1-inch balls and roll in red or green sugar.
- Place on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are just set but not browned.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling.
Notes
- Chill dough for 30 minutes if it feels too soft to roll.
- Use holiday sprinkles for a more festive look.
- Do not overbake—the cookies should stay soft.
