Description

Light and airy angel food cake cubes fried until crisp and tossed in cinnamon sugar for churro-style bites.

Ingredients

  • 1 store-bought angel food cake (about 12 oz)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Chocolate sauce or caramel sauce, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the angel food cake into small bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a shallow bowl, mix the sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat until shimmering.
  4. Fry the cake cubes in batches, turning occasionally, until golden and crispy, 1–2 minutes.
  5. Remove with a slotted spoon and immediately toss in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat.
  6. Serve warm with chocolate or caramel sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Use day-old angel food cake for easier cutting.
  • Do not overcrowd the oil or the bites won’t crisp properly.
  • Best served immediately after frying.
