- Chocolate Cake:
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water or hot coffee

- 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 tsp sea salt (optional)
- Chocolate Frosting:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.
- Whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla; mix until smooth.
- Slowly add boiling water or hot coffee to the batter (it will be thin).
- Pour batter into pans and bake for 28–32 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool cakes completely before assembling.
- Spread caramel sauce over the top of one cake layer; sprinkle with sea salt if desired.
- Prepare frosting by beating butter, powdered sugar, cocoa, cream, and vanilla until fluffy.
- Place second cake layer on top and frost entire cake.
- Drizzle extra caramel on top if desired.
Notes
- For extra indulgence, add a layer of chocolate ganache on top of the caramel.
- Hot coffee deepens the chocolate flavor but can be replaced with hot water.
- Chill cake before slicing for clean layers.
