Description

Easy Apple Brownies are a cozy, fall-inspired dessert that combines the chewy texture of a brownie with the warm, spiced sweetness of baked apples. Loaded with cinnamon, brown sugar, and chunks of apple, these bars are perfect for autumn baking and pair beautifully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups diced apples (about 2 medium apples, peeled and chopped)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • Powdered sugar or caramel sauce for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add egg and vanilla extract, whisking until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually stir dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined — do not overmix.
  6. Fold in diced apples and nuts (if using).
  7. Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let cool completely before slicing into squares. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with caramel sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith for the best flavor and texture.
  • These apple brownies taste even better the next day as the flavors deepen.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
