Description
Easy Salted Carmelitas are rich, chewy dessert bars made with layers of buttery oat crumble, melty chocolate, and gooey salted caramel—simple to prepare and incredibly indulgent.
Ingredients
-
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- Salted Caramel Filling:
- 1 cup caramel sauce or melted soft caramels
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
- 1/2–1 tsp sea salt (to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix melted butter, brown sugar, flour, oats, baking soda, and salt until a crumbly dough forms.
- Press half of the mixture into the bottom of the baking pan and bake for 10 minutes.
- While the crust bakes, warm caramel sauce with heavy cream and sea salt until smooth.
- Remove crust from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly on top.
- Pour salted caramel mixture over the chocolate.
- Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the top.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until lightly golden and bubbling.
- Cool completely before cutting into bars—caramel firms as it cools.
Notes
- Chill in the fridge for cleaner slices.
- Use dark chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
- Add chopped pecans to the topping for extra crunch.
