Ingredients
- 6 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
- 1 cup (240ml) milk
- 1 packet (1 oz/30g) French onion soup mix
- 1 cup (100g) shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup (50g) shredded mozzarella cheese
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and cook slowly, stirring often, for 10–12 minutes until golden and caramelized. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
- In a bowl, whisk together heavy cream, milk, and French onion soup mix until well combined.
- Arrange half of the potato slices in the prepared dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over them and top with half of the caramelized onions and a sprinkle of both cheeses.
- Repeat with remaining potatoes, cream mixture, onions, and cheese, finishing with a cheese layer on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.
Notes
- Use a mandoline for evenly sliced potatoes to ensure even cooking.
