Description
Soft and fluffy homemade cinnamon rolls made with a tender yeast dough, filled with a rich cinnamon sugar mixture and topped with creamy icing.
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a bowl combine warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Mix well.
- Gradually add flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 rolls.
- Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20–25 minutes until golden.
- Mix powdered sugar, cream cheese, milk, and vanilla to make the icing.
- Spread icing over warm cinnamon rolls and serve.
Notes
- Make sure the milk is warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
- The dough should be soft but not sticky; add a little flour if needed.
- Roll the dough tightly to create neat swirls.
- Cinnamon rolls taste best when served warm.
