Description

Soft and fluffy homemade cinnamon rolls made with a tender yeast dough, filled with a rich cinnamon sugar mixture and topped with creamy icing.

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a bowl combine warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 rolls.
  9. Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20–25 minutes until golden.
  11. Mix powdered sugar, cream cheese, milk, and vanilla to make the icing.
  12. Spread icing over warm cinnamon rolls and serve.

Notes

  • Make sure the milk is warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
  • The dough should be soft but not sticky; add a little flour if needed.
  • Roll the dough tightly to create neat swirls.
  • Cinnamon rolls taste best when served warm.
