Description

Italian Hot Chocolate (Cioccolata Calda) is an ultra-thick, rich, and velvety chocolate drink, almost pudding-like, made with real chocolate, milk, and a touch of cornstarch for that signature luxurious texture.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt


Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, whisk cocoa powder, sugar, cornstarch, and salt together.
  2. Slowly add milk while whisking to avoid lumps.
  3. Heat over medium, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to thicken.
  4. Add dark chocolate and continue stirring until fully melted and smooth.
  5. Simmer gently for 1–2 minutes until thick and velvety.
  6. Stir in vanilla extract.
  7. Serve hot in mugs; enjoy as is or top with whipped cream.
