Description
Italian Hot Chocolate (Cioccolata Calda) is an ultra-thick, rich, and velvety chocolate drink, almost pudding-like, made with real chocolate, milk, and a touch of cornstarch for that signature luxurious texture.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 cup chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a saucepan, whisk cocoa powder, sugar, cornstarch, and salt together.
- Slowly add milk while whisking to avoid lumps.
- Heat over medium, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to thicken.
- Add dark chocolate and continue stirring until fully melted and smooth.
- Simmer gently for 1–2 minutes until thick and velvety.
- Stir in vanilla extract.
- Serve hot in mugs; enjoy as is or top with whipped cream.
