Description
Italian Sausage Lasagna is a hearty baked pasta dish layered with savory Italian sausage, rich tomato sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella cheese between tender lasagna noodles.
Ingredients
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
- 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened.
- Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds, then add the Italian sausage. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Stir in marinara sauce, crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, and parsley until combined.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish.
- Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers until ingredients are used, finishing with sauce and mozzarella on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

- Use sweet or spicy Italian sausage depending on your flavor preference.
- Letting the lasagna rest helps it set and slice neatly.
- Add sautéed mushrooms or spinach for extra vegetables.
- Fresh basil can be added for additional flavor.
