Description

Italian Sausage Lasagna is a hearty baked pasta dish layered with savory Italian sausage, rich tomato sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella cheese between tender lasagna noodles.

Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened.
  4. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds, then add the Italian sausage. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  5. Stir in marinara sauce, crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, and parsley until combined.
  7. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish.
  8. Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers until ingredients are used, finishing with sauce and mozzarella on top.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use sweet or spicy Italian sausage depending on your flavor preference.
  • Letting the lasagna rest helps it set and slice neatly.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms or spinach for extra vegetables.
  • Fresh basil can be added for additional flavor.
  • This lasagna can be assembled a day ahead and refrigerated before baking.
