Description
Kartoffel Käse Sticks are crispy German-style potato and cheese sticks made from mashed potatoes mixed with melted cheese, coated in breadcrumbs, and fried or baked until golden and crunchy. They’re the perfect snack or appetizer — crispy on the outside and soft, cheesy on the inside.
Ingredients
- 3 medium potatoes, peeled and boiled
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Oil, for frying
Instructions
- Boil the potatoes until tender, then mash them in a large bowl until smooth.
- Mix in mozzarella, Parmesan, cornstarch, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika until well combined.
- Shape the potato mixture into small sticks or logs.
- Prepare a breading station: place flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs in separate bowls.
- Coat each potato stick first in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.
- Fry the sticks in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2–3 minutes per side.
- Drain on paper towels and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
- Alternatively, bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15–20 minutes for a lighter version.
Notes
- Best served with sour cream, garlic mayo, or spicy ketchup.
- You can add herbs like chives or parsley for extra flavor.
- To make them gluten-free, use gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs.
