Description
Mississippi Chicken is a flavorful slow-cooked dish made with tender chicken, ranch seasoning, au jus gravy mix, butter, and pepperoncini peppers for a rich and tangy comfort meal.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1 packet ranch seasoning mix (about 1 oz)
- 1 packet au jus gravy mix (about 1 oz)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
- 6 pepperoncini peppers
- 1/4 cup pepperoncini juice (optional)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Place the chicken breasts in the bottom of a slow cooker.
- Sprinkle the ranch seasoning mix and au jus gravy mix evenly over the chicken.
- Add garlic powder and black pepper.
- Place the stick of butter on top of the seasoned chicken.
- Add the pepperoncini peppers and pour in the optional pepperoncini juice for extra tangy flavor.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours until the chicken is tender.
- Shred the chicken with two forks and mix it with the sauce in the slow cooker.
- Serve hot over rice, mashed potatoes, pasta, or in sandwich buns.
Notes
- Chicken thighs can be used instead of chicken breasts for a richer flavor.
- Do not add extra salt because the seasoning packets already contain salt.
- For a creamier version, add 4 ounces of cream cheese during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
- This dish works well for sandwiches, wraps, or served over egg noodles.
- Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
