Description

Mississippi Chicken is a flavorful slow-cooked dish made with tender chicken, ranch seasoning, au jus gravy mix, butter, and pepperoncini peppers for a rich and tangy comfort meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix (about 1 oz)
  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix (about 1 oz)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 6 pepperoncini peppers
  • 1/4 cup pepperoncini juice (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken breasts in the bottom of a slow cooker.
  2. Sprinkle the ranch seasoning mix and au jus gravy mix evenly over the chicken.
  3. Add garlic powder and black pepper.
  4. Place the stick of butter on top of the seasoned chicken.
  5. Add the pepperoncini peppers and pour in the optional pepperoncini juice for extra tangy flavor.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours until the chicken is tender.
  7. Shred the chicken with two forks and mix it with the sauce in the slow cooker.
  8. Serve hot over rice, mashed potatoes, pasta, or in sandwich buns.

Notes

  • Chicken thighs can be used instead of chicken breasts for a richer flavor.
  • Do not add extra salt because the seasoning packets already contain salt.
  • For a creamier version, add 4 ounces of cream cheese during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • This dish works well for sandwiches, wraps, or served over egg noodles.
  • Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
