Description
A simple and flavorful onion boil featuring whole sweet onions steamed in foil with butter and seasonings until tender and caramelized—perfect as a side dish or campfire favorite.
Ingredients
- 4 large sweet onions
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- Optional: fresh parsley or chives for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven or grill to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel onions and cut a deep cross into the top of each onion, stopping before the bottom.
- Place each onion on a large sheet of foil.
- Insert 1 tablespoon of butter into the center of each onion.
- Sprinkle garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper over onions.
- Wrap onions tightly in foil.
- Bake or grill for 45–60 minutes until onions are very tender.
- Carefully unwrap, garnish if desired, and serve hot.
Notes
- Foil packets can also be cooked over a campfire.
- Add shredded cheese or a splash of broth for variation.
- Serve alongside grilled meats or vegetables.
