Description

Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches are classic sandwiches made with thinly sliced beef, sautéed onions, and melted cheese served on a soft hoagie roll. They are savory, hearty, and iconic street food from Philadelphia.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ribeye steak, thinly sliced
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (or Cheez Whiz)
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  2. Add sliced onions (and bell peppers if using) and sauté until soft and lightly caramelized. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add sliced steak to the same skillet, season with salt and black pepper, and cook quickly until browned.
  4. Return onions to the skillet and mix with the steak.
  5. Divide the meat mixture into portions and place cheese slices over each portion.
  6. Cover briefly until cheese melts.
  7. Scoop the cheesy steak mixture into hoagie rolls and serve hot.

Notes

  • Ribeye is traditional for authentic flavor.
  • Freeze steak slightly before slicing for thinner cuts.
  • Serve immediately for best texture.
