Description

This Salisbury Steak recipe features tender, flavorful beef patties simmered in a rich mushroom and onion gravy—classic, comforting, and perfect for an easy homemade dinner.

Ingredients

    • For the Salisbury Steaks:
    • 1 lb ground beef
    • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
    • 1 egg
    • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 tsp onion powder
    • 1 tsp garlic powder
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1/2 tsp black pepper
    • 2 tbsp olive oil (for searing)

  • For the Gravy:
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Shape into 4 oval patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned (they will finish cooking in the gravy). Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté onions and mushrooms until softened.
  4. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
  5. Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring, then add Worcestershire and thyme. Simmer until slightly thickened.
  6. Return patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over top, cover, and simmer 10–15 minutes or until steaks are cooked through.
  7. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • Add a splash of heavy cream for an extra-rich gravy.
  • Great for meal prep—reheats very well.
