Description

Decadent salted caramel chocolate bars with a buttery shortbread base, a smooth gooey caramel center, and a rich chocolate topping finished with a sprinkle of sea salt.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for caramel)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix 1 cup butter, granulated sugar, flour, and salt until a dough forms.
  3. Press the dough evenly into the pan to form the base.
  4. Bake for 18–20 minutes until lightly golden. Let cool slightly.
  5. In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, 1/2 cup butter, heavy cream, and corn syrup. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thick and smooth.

  7. Pour caramel over the baked crust and spread evenly. Let set for 15–20 minutes.
  8. Melt chocolate chips and pour over the caramel layer, spreading evenly.
  9. Sprinkle sea salt over the chocolate.
  10. Refrigerate for at least 1–2 hours until fully set.
  11. Cut into bars and serve.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and smooth texture.
  • Allow bars to come slightly to room temperature before cutting for clean slices.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • You can substitute dark chocolate for a richer taste.
