Description
Vanilla French Beignets are fluffy, pillowy fried pastries infused with warm vanilla flavor and dusted in powdered sugar—perfect for an indulgent breakfast or brunch treat.
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F / 43°C)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm milk. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract; whisk until combined.
- Stir in flour and salt until a soft dough forms. Knead for 3–4 minutes until smooth.
- Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Roll dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into squares or rectangles.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry beignets in batches for 1–2 minutes per side until golden.
- Transfer to paper towels to drain.
- Dust generously with powdered sugar and serve warm.
Notes
- For extra vanilla flavor, add vanilla bean seeds to the dough.
- Serve with fruit preserves, chocolate sauce, or fresh berries.
- Beignets taste best freshly fried but can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes.
